Rudrashtkam

By Harshit Aggarwal

O Lord, O God, salutations to you, who is bliss personified, is beyond all, is omni-present, is supreme God, is of the form of knowledge. I pray Lord Shiva, who is established in self, is beyond qualities, is without duality, is passionless, is like conscious sky and lives in the sky.॥1॥

Prostrations to you, who is beyond forms, is the root of OM, is present beyond the states of waking, dream and deep sleep, is beyond speech, knowledge and sense organs, is the Lord of Kailasha, is terrifying, is like death to Yama, is gracious, is the limit of qualities and is beyond the universe.॥2॥

[I worship Lord Shiva] Who is white as Himalaya, is profound, has beautiful body with billion times more splendor than Kama, beautiful Ganga originates from his head making sweet sounds, crescent moon shines on his forehead and snakes look as garland in the neck.॥3॥

I worship Lord Shiva who wears swaying earrings, has beautiful and big third eye, has animated face, has blue neck, is kind, wears lion-skin as cloth, wears the garland of skulls, is loved by all and is Lord of all.॥4॥

I worship Lord Shiva, who is intense, is transcendent, is magnificent, is the ultimate Lord, is indivisible, is unborn, is radiant like millions of sun, destroys the three types of miseries [due to body, material world, luck], holds trident in his hand, is husband of Sri Parvati and can be achieved by Love.॥5॥

O Lord! You are beyond finite qualities, are auspicious, cause the end of Time, are always blissful for nobles, are enemy of Tripura, are condensed consciousness and bliss, remove delusions, enemy of Kama [the unquenchable desires]. Please be content, be pleased.॥6॥

As long as men do not worship the lotus-feet of the Lord of Uma, Sri Shiva, they don't get happiness or peace either in this world or the other worlds, their miseries remain unending. O! resident[owner] of everyone's heart, O Lord! please be content.॥7॥

Neither I know yoga, nor chanting or prayers, O Shambhu!, I forever and always bow to You. O Lord!, O God!, O Shambhu! please save me from the miseries due to old age, birth [and death], etc.॥8॥
