Osho's Story - About Shirdi Avatar

In India, Shirdi is the famous destination for any of the devotees who believed in his preachings and are following him and visiting regularly to Shirdi.
Shirdi is situated in Maharashtra, India.
Osho has told this story about him form or avatar he tooks for the benefit of his devotees.
There was a Brahmin Pundit in Shirdi who was a great devotee of Sai Baba. The Pundit used to prepare the meal for Sai Baba took it to Baba's place. Only after Baba had eaten, the Pundit would go back to his house and take his lunch. Such was the practice.

But there was always a large crowd waiting to meet Baba. People came from far away towns/villages to seek Baba's blessings and Baba did not eat His meal till He attended to all visitors. Therefore it became quite late in the afternoon when Baba took His lunch and it was much later that the Pundit could go home and take his lunch. Baba noticed this.

So He told the Pundit not to come to Ashram with the lunch but Baba Himself would come to Pundit's home at midnoon to have His lunch. Baba was known to give His darshan to devotees at far away places while being in Shirdi Himself. So it was not strange that Baba would visitPundit's house while simultaneously attending to devotees in His ashram. This was absolute music to the Pundit's ears. Imagine God Himself visiting your house and having food!! So Pundit excitedly went home, cleaned it, told his wife and children to prepare properly sothat the house and its inmates were worthy of receiving Sai Baba.

Next day, Pundit and his family were eagerly waiting at their doorstep, looking at the street for Baba to come. Entire street was quite deserted as everyone had gone for work or for Baba's Darshan. Such was the practice those days. But Baba did not come. Pundit kept waiting, only a beggar came on the street. He stood in front of Pundit's house but Pundit shooed him away. But Baba did not come.

Pundit felt very disturbed. He felt that he must have done some sin/mistake. So without eating, late in the afternoon, he went running to Baba's ashram (I think it was a hall near mosque). With tears in his eyes, he begged Baba for forgiveness and enquired why Baba did notcome. Baba looked at Pundit with His piercing eyes and asked whether no one came to Pundit's home. It stuck Pundit that Baba had actually visited his house in the garb of the beggar and that he had missed to recognise Baba. Pundit once again, profusely sought Baba's forgiveness for his folly and went home to prepare for Baba's visit the next day.

Once again, next day, the street was deserted. Pundit and his family kept waiting but today the beggar did not come. There was no soul visible on the street through out the day. Only a dog was running around the street, once in a while stopping and wagging its tail in front of Pundit. But Baba did not come, nor did that beggar come.

So, in the evening, Pundit went empty stomach, running to seek forgiveness from Baba. He asked what mistake he had committed this time that Baba did not feel fit to visit his house for lunch. Baba once again looked at Pundit with His piercing eyes. It stuck Pundit that Baba had actually come in the guise of the dog. Baba kept looking and that was when Pundit got his Deeksha/Initiation.

IT FLASHED TO PUNDIT THAT BABA WOULD VISIT IN ANY FORM - BEGGAR, DOG OR ANYTHING. SINCE THE FORM IN WHICH BABA WOULD APPEAR IS NOT KNOWN, WHOSOEVER COMES, THAT PERSON SHOULD BE TREATED WITH THE SAME RESPECTTHAT IS GIVEN TO BABA.

What a moral!! What a story!! Once again, thanks to Osho.
